We are pleased to show you the SIO-2® 2024 Calendar, dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of Cerámica Collet S.A. (1874-2024).
It is the history of the Batllori-Collet family, originating from a long saga of potters from Sants. In 1874, Mariano Batllori Juvert decided to build a house, a kiln, and a pottery workshop in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, so that his son Josep Batllori Munné could continue the family tradition.
During the first half of the 20th century, artisan activity was enhanced by Calixto Collet Collet, son-in-law of Josep Batllori and with a solid artistic training. Calixto promotes the company after the Spanish civil war, a very critical period in which the facilities were seized as a warehouse for war ammunition. In 1938, the factory exploded and caught fire. After its reconstruction, the activity resurfaces with an appreciated production of utilitarian and ornamental ceramics for architecture.
In the middle of the century, Rodolfo Collet Batllori, son of Calixto and a great innovator, oriented the company's production towards complementary products for construction, investing in production processes to satisfy the needs of Spanish “developmentalism” of the moment. In 1965, due to the strong demographic pressure in the surroundings of Barcelona, the manufacture of clay was moved to a new plant in Esparreguera.
At the end of the 70s, coinciding with the crisis of ceramic materials for construction, the company's activity took a substantial turn towards the manufacture of ready-made ceramic clays, beginning to offer artisans and small industries a quality raw material that allowed them to abandon the artisanal production of clay to concentrate exclusively on their own finished ceramic activity. Leadership passes to the brothers Rodolfo and Calixto Collet Ferrer, sons of Rodolfo Collet Batllori, who promote the Esparreguera factory and decide to look for external investors to grow and professionalize the company.
In 1992, with the entry of new partners, the company gained new momentum that ended up placing Cerámica Collet S.A. and its brand “SIO-2” as a leader in the manufacture of ceramic clay bodies and clays for modelling, with an export level of 70%, and sales in more than 50 countries on 5 continents.
It is the history of a century-old company that has known how to adapt to the needs of the moment and reinvent itself when necessary to prevail from generation to generation. A company with resilience and solid values, which, above all, has succeeded in believing in people.
For this reason, we are proud to present this very special edition of the new calendar.
You can find it at SIO-2® ceramic clays sales points!
