Firing recommendations
• The vivid mottling characteristic of the LUNA body is due to the presence of natural minerals that may contain traces of compounds susceptible to rehydration after low-temperature firing, which may cause chipping. To minimize this risk, it is recommended to carry out the bisque firing at higher temperatures (1050–1080 °C) and increase the soaking time. Alternatively, whenever possible, it is advisable to work in single firing, where this effect does not occur.
• Due to the presence of small fluxing minerals in the composition, the use of kiln shelf protection during firing is recommended.
(*) Firing range recommended for the clay to develop its best performance, both in terms of technical and safety characteristics, under conventional firing conditions. The colour samples may show temperatures outside the recommended range to provide a broader view, but these are pieces fired under controlled conditions. Cone equivalence according to Orton table for self-supporting cones, regular-SSB and 150ºC/hr heating rate.
